nelaartLook for this project at NELA 2nd Saturday this weekend.

Pop-Hop is proud to host a reception for The Full Dollar Collection of Contemporary Art, an Outpost @ Armory neighborhood-based public art project facilitated by Ecuadorian artist X. Andrade that features four collaboratively produced, hand-painted images on storefronts on York Boulevard in Highland Park.

Full Dollar, a multi-platform social art project, reconsiders the tradition of public art through collaboration among teams of artists, sign painters, and business owners. The resulting signs will be on display for one year and are made by the following teams: sign painter Rodolfo Cardona, visual artist Ruby Osorio, and Awesome Playground, an indoor/outdoor children’s play area; Anna Ialeggio, visual artist Martin Durazo, and Digicolor, a digital image lab; sign painter Kimberley “The Window Goddess” Edwards, visual artist Shizu Saldamando, and Mi Vida, a lifestyle boutique; and sign painter Rodolfo Cardona, artist Sandow Birk, and The Nogueira Building, a leading proprietor in the community since the 1960s (and home to Pop-Hop!).

The reception will be held Saturday, March 9, from 6 to 10 pm, during NELA ArtWalk, at Pop-Hop Books & Print, 5002 York Blvd. LA, CA 90042. Please join us!

Join the folks at Spoke(n) Art for a little biking art tour:

Saturday, January 12, 2013 · 6:30 PM
Bike Oven
3706 Figueroa St, Highland Park

What is the Spoke(n) Art Ride? The Spoke(n) Art bicycle ride is a free, once-a-month, bicycle tour of art galleries in North East Los Angeles. The ride takes place on the second Saturday of each month – a special night in North East Los Angeles. Area art galleries open their doors late into the night as part of NELAart’s “Gallery Night”. When does it start and how long does it last? The ride typically meets at the Bike Oven (located at 3706 N. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90065). The ride leaves at 7:00 p.m., when everyone rides, en masse, at a slow pace, towards the first gallery of the night. The last gallery is usually visited around 9 or 10 p.m. By that time, bicycle riders that have joined in the middle of the ride have swollen the ranks to about 40-80 people. There is usually an after party at the Bike Oven. After parties in the past have been fueled by cheap beer, flaming pinatas, kiddie bike races, and anything else anybody on the ride decided would be a good idea. If you miss the start and want to catch up, call 626-388-0046 or 310-902-5439. This ride is organized by the Bike Oven.
