LummisHouse_4583Head over to Heritage Square this Saturday for a little fun & fundraising.

Lummis Day Fundraiser
Saturday, May 4 • 7-9 pm
Heritage Square Museum 3800 Homer Street.

Great food, unique entertainment, soft drinks, wine & beer are all included with admission. Plus, a silent auction offers the chance to win art, books, vintage wines and rare collectibles.

See an excerpt from a unique theater piece dramatizing early California history, enjoy tasty specialties from neighborhood restaurants and sip wine or soft drinks with your neighbors in one of our city’s most distinctive settings.

Marissa Chibas, who headed Cal Arts’ MFA acting program for seven years, will present excerpts from the new theatrical piece “The Los Angeles Founding Families” a unique historical/theatrical presentation especially appropriate to the Heritage Square setting. Ms. Chibas’ most recent production, the critically acclaimed “Daughter of a Cuban Revolutionary,” was presented at L.A.’s Redcat Theatre before travelling to Miami, Guadalajara and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Music will be provided by singer-songwriter Diedra Randolph, a frequent contributor to movie and TV soundtracks. Performances will be staged on the porch of the historic 1897 Lincoln Avenue Church, which was moved to Heritage Square in 1981 and meticulously restored by preservationists.

Please help us support the Lummis Day community event, the only arts festival that represents all of Northeast L.A. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door. You can buy them at Galco’s, at Antigua Coffee or at www.LummisDay.org. All proceeds from this event will support the 2013 Lummis Day Festival, set for Sunday June 2.

CicLAvia – To the Sea! Sun, surf, and 15 miles of open road will mark the first CicLAvia of 2013, transforming Venice Boulevard and downtown Los Angeles streets into a car-free, linear park for strolling, biking, playing, and exploring the city from a new perspective. Since it began in 2010, CicLAvia has quickly become Los Angeles County’s most popular public event, consistently attracting more than 100,000 participants. CicLAvia is free of charge and open to everyone, from lifelong Angelenos to first-time visitors from around the globe. Leave the motorized transportation methods behind and claim the streets as your own.

About CicLAvia

CicLAvia is recognized as one of the city’s most innovative initiatives – a large-scale, public celebration that has come to symbolize Los Angeles’ civic, cultural, and environmental resurgence. CicLAvia challenges the stereotype of Los Angeles as a car-addicted, smog-choked megalopolis, and gives people a chance to enjoy the benefits of the city’s improved walkability, bikeability, public transit, and vibrant street life.

Since it began in 2010, CicLAvia has quickly become Los Angeles’ most popular public event, consistently attracting more than 100,000 participants. CicLAvia is free of charge and open to all. No reservations are required. For more information, or to download maps, please visit www.ciclavia.org. To keep up with the latest CicLAvia news, become a fan on Facebook or follow us on Twitter or click “join” on our website to receive our email newsletters.

CicLAvia is being produced by Community Arts Resources (CARS).
